Sure I did.
I never knew my father. He was one of those who never came home.
I don't know exactly what he did in the Army Air Corps other than he was an NCO. Whatever it was he did, it must have been pretty important because someone decided it was really important that he and some others should be flown from India to China rather than risk the trek over the Ledo Road. It was reported that the aircraft crashed in fog as they crossed the mountains. Ironically, the rest of the troops in their group made the trip over the road without mishap.
So today I will be honoring by flying the flag
Am I correct in assuming that today is the anniversary of the crash?
ReplyDeleteNo, the crash was January 25, 1944.
ReplyDeleteToday is Memorial Day, one of the major holidays celebrated here.
Originally it was celebrated on May 30, but now it's one of our Monday holidays.
Thank you. Our equivalent is, I suppose, Remembrance Day, the Sunday nearest to 11 November (which was originally known as Armistice Day, the day WW1 ended).
ReplyDeleteWe celebrate November 11, too. It used to be Armistice Day. Now it's Veterans Day.
