Yesterday I said I couldn't remember when I quit working.
I meant when I stopped being employed... as in having a job.
Some might say when I retired, but it wasn't my plan when I left my employer.
The fact is when I left my last job I had no plan other than I was no longer going to work there.
English is a funny language. So many words have so many meanings. And then, depending on the emphasis, a spoken sentence may mean exactly the opposite of the speaker is saying.
I was reading elsewhere that someone had commented that the Celtics "creamed" the Cavaliers in the fifth game of the quarter finals. A Japanese inquired what was involved in the creaming process. "Ah, so! Creamed Cavaliers."
