Maybe I mentioned somewhere that it's been cold (that's cold for us Californians) here. Like right now at 10:30am it is 32F on it's way up from a low of 17.
So we were warned about freezing by the weather folks and I saw to it that the supply to the house wasn't at any risk. This morning one of the sprinkler irrigation valves burst sending water almost ten feet in the air. So much for taking care of things. I went to turn off the isolation valve off. No luck. It's stuck. Worse, the access is so small that my hand barely fits so there's no way I can get a wrench or other tool in to turn it. Ultimately, I had to call the city to turn off the main supply to the property. It's a good thing I did because I would have turned off the neighbor's and wondered why my gusher was still going.
My next step was to find out what needed repairing. I don't what it's called but a part on one of the zone supplies basically disintegrated. So I figured I can go to a supply place to get a replacement. Only one minor problem. The manufacturer is no longer in business... or some similar fate.
Now, rather than hassle with running around the countryside looking for parts for something I know virtually nothing about. I am awaiting an irrigation specialist to come and analyze the situation, make some initial adjustments and offer suggestions.
Meanwhile, I did find out that every decent plumber in the area can come out either tomorrow or Friday. I guess we're not entirely alone with freezing problems.
Ugh. Best of luck, skip.
