Quote for the...

~ Ellen Goodman
"In journalism, there has always been a tension between getting it first and getting it right."

Bloggers suffer from no such handicap.

The quote is up on another blog. The last line is mine. I should expound further.
First let me say that journalists write both news and commentary. The news they write had better be absolutely right. Being first is a bonus. Their commentary is many times colored by their opinion and should be labeled as such. Otherwise the reader may become confused and determine that everything the journalist writes is commentary. . . not good, particularly if the reader finds it disagreeable.

It is perhaps unfortunate that with many of the journalists I have met over the years, being absolutely right would be a bonus!

  2. Yeah. Like how many different places can they bury Michael Jackson?
