I have been called out twice in the past week for two pastimes that I seldom pursue any more. I won't say what they are because I want readers to look at both blogs and read the comments. Ironically, the party who derided these pastimes has a quote on his blog today that is the best possible answer I could give:
"If people never did silly things, nothing intelligent would ever get done."
~ Ludwig Wittgenstein
It's probably a good thing that I didn't find that quote until today.
Hmm. I hadn't really intended that my comments should fall into the category of derision. It's just that I really can't see me getting any enjoyment out of either pastime. But probably the basic truth is that I'm envious of anyone who can hit a golf ball in the first place, let alone hit one in the right direction! By the way, in case it appears that I am a proper unsporting nerd, my favourite sport was rock climbing and I did play badminton and darts, albeit badly, very badly. I'm too old for either climbing or badminton now and darts have just lost their allure.
ReplyDeleteI went rock climbing... once! It wasn't the climbing that was unnerving. It was the getting back down.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. It's that walking backwards over the edge of the cliff . . .
ReplyDeleteWhich reminds me of a story. Perhaps I'll tell it one day.
Backwards?
ReplyDeleteAbseiling.
