Gee whiz

I have been called out twice in the past week for two pastimes that I seldom pursue any more. I won't say what they are because I want readers to look at both blogs and read the comments. Ironically, the party who derided these pastimes has a quote on his blog today that is the best possible answer I could give:
"If people never did silly things, nothing intelligent would ever get done."
~ Ludwig Wittgenstein
It's probably a good thing that I didn't find that quote until today.

  1. Hmm. I hadn't really intended that my comments should fall into the category of derision. It's just that I really can't see me getting any enjoyment out of either pastime. But probably the basic truth is that I'm envious of anyone who can hit a golf ball in the first place, let alone hit one in the right direction! By the way, in case it appears that I am a proper unsporting nerd, my favourite sport was rock climbing and I did play badminton and darts, albeit badly, very badly. I'm too old for either climbing or badminton now and darts have just lost their allure.

  2. I went rock climbing... once! It wasn't the climbing that was unnerving. It was the getting back down.

  3. I know what you mean. It's that walking backwards over the edge of the cliff . . .

Which reminds me of a story. Perhaps I'll tell it one day.
