While we are on the subject

Food, that is.
Golly, I'm sorry that Brian's off to France. He could... and would... probably have some quite interesting thoughts on the subject.
So anyway, through pure coincidence Jim 'Suldog' Sullivan and I both came up with the same title for blog posts, neither of which is about food, during the last few days. [Heck mine wasn't even on this blog. The similarity of our posts ended at the title.
But I digress... Food.
It is quite similar to weather in that just about everyone has some kind of opinion about it. They also have their favorite and their avoid at all costs foods. Then there are some folks who have their, "I'd like to try that at least once" list.
I have a number of favorites. topping the list at the moment is San Francisco sourdough french bread... probably because I currently must refrain from crusty stuff.
At the very top of my avoid at all costs list is lutefisk, which has spawned a whole culture of bad food jokes told with a Scandinavian accent:

Well, we tried the lutefisk trick and the raccoons went away, but now we've got a family of Norwegians living under our house!

As for what I'd like to try, I'm pretty much out of options. I have reached a point where there are a number of things that I would like to have again some day, but I'm open to suggestions.

What are those things on your list that you love, hate or haven't tried?

  1. Well, as I said over at Michelle's place, I really can't stand vegetables cooked with cheese. Yuck!

On the other hand... Love? Lots of things.

Thanksgiving dinner, including every damn component of it.

    Duck L'Orange

Chinese Food, in almost all forms.

Same for Italian (except when it involves cheesy veggies...)

    Cookies.

I could go on for pages.

  2. I am really a poor Irishman. If potatoes are left off my plate, I don't miss them, particularly hash browns.
When I was a kid, two of the standard Thanksgiving dishes were creamed cauliflower and creamed onions, both of which were loaded with cheese. I can't say that I miss them.
There's not much out there, food-wise, that I won't at least give a taste.

  3. Well, as I said today in my post, green beans are near the top of my last. Yet there is even a worse food (or semblance as such) that I abhor with an undying passion.

    Mayo.

Enough said. See, I won't even spend the time badmouthing it - that's how little respect I have for the foodstuff.

Love? Hmm... there's lots of things but I'm a simple girl. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes is up high on the list. Also, bread pudding.

I've never tried turnips, or raspberries. Have to one day. Never tried sushi before either. I always go by the philosophy that I'll try anything once... depending on how many stiff drinks I had beforehand.

Lutefisk... every time I say the word, I keep thinking it means a sexual fetish with a 2nd century guitar. lute - fisk

Yeah, that's something Suldog would think up...

  4. Hi Michelle - thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for reminding me about meatloaf. Serve it with a side of mac 'n cheese, please.
Turnips are okay as a part of New England boiled dinner. I remember, as a kid, picking and eating raspberries right from the plant. I don't think I've ever gotten excited about bread pudding.
As for mayo, it can't be all bad, since it's named after a county in Ireland.
Your possibility for lutefisk a second century musical sex fetish dreamed up by Suldog has me ROFLMAO.
